• Hello! I’m Long: equal parts thinker, tinkerer, and designer. I grew up in the Bay Area where technology and innovation never stops. I studied Mechanical Engineering at the California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo (B.S.) and San Jose State University (M.S.).

  • Currently at Cepheid, developing processes and hardware for next generation molecular diagnostic instruments to quickly and accurately detect infectious diseases and genetic conditions. Previously, I worked at a variety of start-ups:

Hound Diagnostics (previously Hound Labs) — creating manufacturing equipment and processes for the first commercial breathalyzer to detect THC

NeuroLeap — designing handheld devices as part of an AI platform for neurological assessments and intervention

Astranis — supporting qualification testing and designs for small, low-cost satellites to provide dedicated, high-speed broadband internet

Insilixa — developing semiconductor-based molecular diagnostic biochips and point-of-care testing systems

  • My research and academic interests include biomechanics, finite element methods, mechatronics, product development, automation, and control systems.

On my free time you can catch me reading or watching videos on how things are made.
